The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA), responsible for overseeing the regulated gambling sector in the Netherlands, is set to undergo a change in leadership. The current chairman, René Jansen, has decided not to seek reappointment as his term expires on October 1 next year. With Jansen reaching retirement age at the end of this year, the Minister for Legal Protection will appoint a new chairman for a six-year term. Interested parties can submit responses until November 12, 2023, and the selection process will be handled by the General Administrative Service (ABD). The new chairman is anticipated to commence duties on July 1, 2024.

Jansen, reflecting on his decision, expressed his dedication to the KSA's mission of ensuring safe play. He acknowledged the challenges awaiting the incoming chairman, emphasizing the crucial role of the KSA in supervising and enforcing regulations in diverse gaming markets. Jansen characterized the management position as demanding creativity, innovation, decisiveness, and significant social value.

This announcement follows the KSA's recent penalty against Blue High House S.A. for allegedly offering games of chance to Dutch customers without the required license. The regulator instructed the operator to cease this activity, warning of weekly penalties up to €43,000, reaching a maximum of €129,000 for non-compliance. The KSA urged customers to utilize licensed gambling operators for player protection and fair services, emphasizing the associated risks with unlicensed operators. The regulator reaffirmed its commitment to proactive market monitoring.
